Why take part?

To help achieve millions of people involved in the fight against malaria

If we show, in one place, millions of people care about beating malaria…maybe, just maybe, we can contribute to persuading governments to allocate the money needed to achieve this. It would mean the final piece of the jigsaw puzzle was in place to beat malaria.

How much is required? US$3.5bn only each year for 10 years. That sounds like a lot of money to you and me but against national budgets it is not. Perhaps it would break down like this: US$1bn a year each year for 10 years from the American government; $0.5bn each year for 10 years from the British government; the same from the Japanese: US$50-200m each from the French, Germans, Canadians, Italians, Australians etc. This should NOT be impossible to achieve.

The prize? Malaria is beaten and we avoid 1-3 million needless deaths each year.

Why US$3.5bn only each year for 10 years?

$35bn, spread over 10 years, is often quoted as the cost to beat malaria. This to beat the world’s single largest killer of children.

Here is an extract from a paper that talks in similar numbers. There are others.
